Free Fonts
There are thousands of fonts out there, so why can’t you utilize a special one? Because not everybody taking a look at your internet site will have the font installed on their PC. Your visitor will be having a look at your page with their installed fonts. Mac users have different default fonts to IBM and compatible users too. So how does one pander to the masses? There are 1 or 2 fonts that are installed by default on most PCs and it’s best to stay with them ( for example : Times New Roman, Arial, Courier or Verdana ). When using these fonts you can indicate them in your font tags or in your CSS ( Cascading Style Sheet ) files. Always include possible choices for different browsers to choose between. If you’re using a style to identify a font size, guarantee your font isn’t under ten points. If you have miles of text one on page, you might consider splitting it up into sub pages. Try making a summarized main version and use detailed links to more pages. Using similar colored background and text. Ensure your text has enough contrast for spectators to read simply. Using garish or acute background and text color mixtures. Nothing puts me ( and thousands of other web users ) off quicker than attempting to read text on a garish background color.
Keep text easy-to-read. ALL CAPITALS. Multiple fonts. A top quality pro document won’t use more than two or three fonts on a page.
This rule applies both online and offline. Too many fonts are distracting, so if you need variety, decide on one font for the headings, and one for the text – then stick to them all though your document. When designing an internet site, it’s a good idea to maintain consistency across the site by sticking with the same fonts on each page.
